Miles Zurawell is a performer, composer, and educator

based in British Columbia & Alberta, Canada. An experienced road musician, he has toured internationally with acclaimed artists Zachary Lucky, John Lowell, Blaine Sprouse, and as a member of the Greg Blake Band

Raised in the rural outskirts of Edmonton, Alberta, Miles Zurawell was immersed in a wide range of music at an early age. A self-taught guitarist in his formative years, he fell in love with bluegrass and old-time music when he was inspired to pick the banjo by Louisiana native Dr. Lee Foote while studying biology at the University of Alberta. Soon after, he discovered the dobro as well. After several years of toil as a cog in the government machine, reviewing applications for oil sands mines and coming face-to-face with the realities of industry’s impact on the environment and humanity, he put his biology career on hold to focus intently on learning the dobro. While seeking out dobro mentors Ivan Rosenberg, Billy Cardine, and Mike Witcher, Miles Zurawell began touring with regional Canadian bluegrass acts and singer-songwriters and internationally with the Greg Blake Band. An accomplished accompanist, you’ll find Miles putting his dobro, banjo, guitar, and lap steel to work on diverse acoustic-based musical acts across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

With a passion for folk music of all types, especially those centred around the fiddle, Miles Zurawell has been exploring diverse fiddle traditions on the dobro and banjo, which is the focus of his debut album, Far Afield
